Creating Team Norms and Planning Time

TEAM NORMS
  • You have all been assigned your roles and teams.
  • The first thing you will do is sit down as a team and create some team norms.
  • These are shared expectations that each team member agrees to follow so that the team can work together.
  • You will create these norms together.
  • Click here to access a copy of the team norms using one of your Google Drive accounts. OR Click here to view and copy the information into MS Word.
  • Discuss what norms you want to create and come to a collective agreement, then type them in the Google Docs template.
  • Also complete the second part on what steps your team will take when someone is not following the team norms.
  • When you have completed the team norms, share the document with your teacher. It will be printed out so you can sign it and then be placed in your team binder.

WORK ASSIGNMENTS
  • Once you have completed your team norms, you will want to get the binder related to your work assignment (Yearbook staff have other resources).
  • Your binder will be a good place to store any information you collect for your assignments and also to take notes, etc. That way, if you are absent the next day, another student can pick up where you left off and continue the work.
  • You will want to look through that binder to see if it has any material that will come in helpful as you start your work assignments.
  • You will also want to view previous work completed on The Blackville Talon
  • As a team, you should determine who will do what roles and consider what your first assignment(s) will be. Most teams will have to come up with story ideas.
  • You will then need to become familiar with any necessary equipment (cameras, microphones, software, etc).  You probably will want to do a "trial" run with the equipment to see how it works.
  • You should start your first assignment as soon as you can. Remember, you are learning by doing. Do not be afraid to make mistakes or do things over, etc. Remember the Expert Enough Manifesto
